Let’s celebrate Juneteenth! Join Miss Mandi for a story time at 10:30 on Saturday, June 19th to celebrate Juneteenth! Juneteenth is a holiday marking the occasion when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned on June 19th, 1865 that they had been freed from slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation had declared enslaved African Americans free two-and-a-half years earlier on January 1, 1863, but many did not learn of their freedom until 1865. Help us celebrate this momentous day with a story time where we learn the history of Juneteenth and how it is celebrated today!
