The Coeur d’Alene Public Library is joining forces with publishers and retailers around the world on Saturday, May 7, by participating in Free Comic Book Day, and will also host a Royal Tea Party. Young patrons visiting the library, 702 E. Front Ave., during regular hours, noon to 4 p.m., can pick up their free comic book by visiting the Seagrave Children’s Library on the Parkside Level or Teen Central upstairs on the Terrace Level. The comic books are available as long as the supply lasts. “Comic books can be a great way for children to become interested in reading,” said Library Director Bette Ammon. “They offer a nearly limitless number of characters and adventures that can appeal to all ages of readers. And the art presented is some of the most creative work being done in the world today. They are also a lot of fun.” The comic book giveaway is sponsored by a grant from the Friends of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, whose volunteers operate Second Story Books in the main lobby of the library Monday through Saturday. The Friends are also the sponsors of the Royal Tea Party, scheduled for 1-3 p.m. in the Community Room. The activity is this year’s version of the American Girl Tea Party and is intended for ages 7-12 accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or other special adult guest. There is no charge for the tea party, but seating is limited. Participants are asked to register prior to the event by contacting the children’s library either in person or by calling 208-769-2315 Ext. 438. Royal costume for the tea party is encouraged. Special refreshments and activities will be provided.
Patrons who need accommodation to participate in library programs or services are asked to contact the staff prior to the activity by calling 208/769-2315. News about the library and other city departments is also available on the City of Coeur d’Alene news blog: cdacity.blogspot.com. |
